Advertising A Business

Most local advertising budgets get spent on things that stop the moment you stop paying. That is the lens worth using when comparing options.

What repeats and what does not

A month of local radio, one billboard rotation, or a decent print run each costs on the order of a thousand dollars or more, and then ends.

A 13-foot advertising blimp is $1,526 once, with full colour artwork on both sides included, and keeps working. Customers write to us still flying the same one after fourteen years. The only repeating cost is helium, at roughly $2.50 a day.

That is not an argument that balloons beat radio. It is an argument that they are a different kind of spend, and worth comparing on that basis rather than on price alone.

When a balloon is the wrong answer

If your customers find you online and never drive past, a balloon does nothing for you. Spend the money on your website.

If you are down a side street with no pass-by traffic, same answer. Height only helps if there is somebody on a road to see it.

We would rather say this plainly than sell you something that ends up in a box. The businesses that get their money back are the ones sitting on a road with real traffic that currently cannot see them.

When it is the right answer

  • Car and truck dealers — The largest single group of repeat buyers we have.
  • Homebuilders — Weekend traffic to a model home. A California company runs 100+ of ours weekly.
  • Grand openings — Look established on day one without a permanent sign budget.
  • Seasonal sales — Fly it for the promotion, box it, bring it out next quarter.
  • Large low buildings — Wide frontage with no vertical presence. A balloon supplies it.
